How do logrolling competitions work? There are tournaments for all ages and abilities out there. In 2018 I signed into the US Pro Women's circuit. At the pro level, we compete in spikes on cedar logs, trying to knock our opponent off in a three out of five match. You can't touch them (on purpose) or cross the painted center line. Each match starts on a big log, then after a certain time amount of time has elapsed (time limits are different for guys and girls) the match will be moved to a smaller log, then a smallER log, then the smallest log. Tournaments are usually double elimination style. In youth, amateur and collegiate logrolling, competitions are held on cedar logs covered in carpet or synthetic Key Logs.

Where and how do you practice?I train at a lot of different places, but my main spot is Island Outdoors in La Crosse, Wisconsin near my hometown! I have a lot of really fantastic friends and training partners in and outside of the La Crosse area. I don't like to talk too much about my training specifics, but I obviously spend a lot of time on the log and also run, lift, and practice a variety of stability and agility workouts.

Is it fun/hard/dangerous?Yes, yes, and not at all. I've spent a lot of my life around logrolling and have never seen anyone seriously get hurt. My injuries have only been scrapes or from overtraining (which you'll get in any sport). Everyone says, "I could never do that, I'd fall in right away" or "I'd look stupid trying to even get on it." It is REALLY difficult at first but I've also never seen anyone not laugh and have fun their first time trying it. If you or someone you know wants to give it a try, know that the beginning is all about learning stability and positioning. The skill and athleticism come later once you've learned how to stay on. And don't be embarrassed if you have a funny fall, it happens to all of us!

Why'd you become a logroller?I first saw logrolling when my local YMCA was holding a pro logrolling session back in 2009. It was love at first sight! Today, I love the challenge of it and am so grateful for the wonderful opportunities it has brought into my life. In the future, I look forward competing, rolling just for fun, and working hard to grow the sport!
